Noosa Council to build new, inclusive amenities block in Quota Park, Noosaville

Noosa Council has awarded a construction contract for a new public amenities building on the foreshore.

The new amenities block will provide accessible amenities for people with high support needs and their carers, as well as standard toilet and outdoor shower facilities.

The project is part of the Noosaville Foreshore Infrastructure Master Plan, endorsed last year.

Carfax Commercial Constructions won the tender with work set to begin in June.

Community asked for new amenities

Mayor Frank Wilkie said the new facility responded to community feedback calling for better amenities along the Gympie Terrace foreshore.

‘The new amenities will bridge a 950-metre gap between facilities so everyone and especially people with high support needs and their carers, can enjoy this fantastic riverside parkland,’ Mayor Wilkie said.

Designed by local firm Bark Design Architects, the purpose-built facility will reflect Noosa’s distinctive character and include:

  • adult-sized change table, ceiling hoist and privacy screen
  • landscaping and improved pathway connections
  • seating and external showers
  • new footpath link to disability parking spaces

The Crisafulli Government is contributing $1 million to the amenities block, while the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program is also contributing.

Council aims to finish construction by November 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

During construction, work areas will be temporarily fenced for safety. The adjacent off-street car park will remain open, with approximately five spaces of on-street parking required for site facilities and material deliveries.

Foreshore pathways will stay open with minor detours as needed.

‘We appreciate the community’s understanding while this important upgrade is delivered,’ Mayor Wilkie said.

New inclusive play equipment at Pirate Park

Meanwhile, council will also remove The Pirate playground liberty swing which council says ‘is at the end of its useful life’ and replace it with all-abilities play equipment including a trampoline and a carousel.

Work is scheduled to commence on 25 May with completion expected in June.
