The Australian Institute of Architects has announced a brewery in Eumundi as the winner of the Building of the Year Award in the 2025 Sunshine Coast Regional Architecture Awards.
Matso’s Sunshine Coast Brewery was designed by Five Mile Radius and Knight Wilson Architects who transformed an iconic Queensland hotel into a brewery, restaurant and beer garden.

The jury praised the Matso’s Brewery project as a ‘respectful execution of a substantial renovation to a heritage building on the high street of a small character town.’

Farewell to eminent Queensland architect Peter Roy
The Brisbane architecture community this month farewelled the designer of some of Queensland’s most iconic buildings, well-loved teacher and mentor, the architect Peter Roy, who died in April.

Roy guided the Queen Street Mall refurbishment, BCC Library Renewal program, Southern Region Bus Depot and designed the Brisbane Powerhouse Centre: transforming it from a dilapidated electricity generating station into a lively, vibrant performing arts hub.

He was Project Architect for the Queensland Art Gallery and site architect for the Queensland Performing Arts Centre complex.
Peter Roy was also an educator at the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University and the Australian Institute of Architects.
He was awarded an Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter President’s Prize for his extraordinary contribution to the profession shortly before his death. Full obituary
